The „Harbour of Roses“ Portoroz is part of the municipality of Piran. The tourist location on the rocky coast has an artificial beach in its centre. The harbour, together with hotels and the casino characterises the townscape – the one’s in search of historic old towns should ramble in Piran. The church of St. Clementa, sitting enthroned, like a castle at the top of the peninsula, is the town’s landmark. The Piazza Tartini has been renovated beautifully in the style of the late 19th century. The Venetian architecture impresses throughout the old town – and the promenade as well as the small harbour entice with lots of restaurants.

An excursion to the Salinas of Secovlje is worthwhile: salt is still recovered here in the traditional way; the Salinas are protected as a nature park. Not only the Salina crab walks the earth in the Park but also hundreds of bird’s nest and breed in this bird’s paradise.
