The yacht charter destination Marmaris is one of the centers of tourism in this region of the Turkish Aegean Sea and yacht charter Turkey tourism. Charter sailors reach the yacht charter Marmaris bases via Dalaman Airport. This is about 110 kilometers away, the transfer time is around one and a half hours. Sometimes the path leads over Rhodes: the island whose harbor is Port of Entry as well as in Marmaris is only about 25 nautical miles away.
The town lies in a large, attractive and sheltered bay. Most of the old Marmaris, formerly used as naval base of the marine of different nations, including the Romans, was destroyed in 1958 by an earthquake. The medieval castle Marmaris Kalesi and a small part of the picturesque old town with narrow streets are still standing.
The castle dominates today a eleven-kilometer beach promenade that invites the Marmaris Yacht Charter crews to a stroll – and to visit the many restaurants, pubs and small Bars. Before or after the cruise from Marmaris, for many tourist a visit to the bustling modern bazaar directly at the Old Town harbor is a must – of course with intense haggling. The image of the harbour of Marmaris is dominated by impressive gulets – even for large cruise ships, the city has become a popular destination.
Supermarkets, yacht equipment shops and gas stations in all ports ensure in and around offer perfect service for Marmaris Yacht Charter crews.
The bay of Marmaris is for itself a great sailing area, and as well the venue for the annual Marmaris Race Week in the fall, with many of the Yacht Charter MArmaris crews participating.
There are of course many taverns and restaurants with their own dock or jetty – especially popular: the restaurant of the "Dutch Ahmet" at the small yacht harbour of the Kumlu Bükü yacht club in a bay with lots of pine and shingle beach is still within the Marmaris Bay, just off Cape Kadirga. They offer upscale Turkish cuisine with many specialties, many of the Marmaris Yacht Charter crews make their first or last stopover during the cruise here.
After leaving the bay, yacht charter Marmaris crews have the choice – between a trip to the West with circumnavigation of Bozburun peninsula to the Datca peninsula and then into the Gulf of Gokova, to the south towards the Greek Dodecanese islands of Rhodes and Symi, or eastward to the Gulf of Fethiye.
The first large bay to the east, however, is a restricted military area. Charter Yachts from Marmaris do best sailing a big circle around the island Yilancik located in front of Karaagac Bay and the submerged rocks Edmonds Rock (Turkish: Turnali Kayasi) in the west of the island. Under protection is the "turtle beach" of Dalyan, which should not be entered. Good stopover on the way to the Fethiye Gulf: the My Marina in Ekincik Bay – and a to the Dalyan estuary and the freshwater lake Koycegiz can be recommended as well.
In and around Marmaris in the bay there are several modern marinas with Yacht charter Marmaris bases,
The Netsel Marina (also Setur Marina) is located near the old town and offers all the services from restaurants to supermarket, laundry and boatyard, including W-Lan.
Two miles from Marmaris (or eight kilometers over land) is the Marmaris Yacht Marina with an equally excellent range of facilities and services and beyond with gym and swimming pool – there is a minibus shuttle to Marmaris and a free ferry connection.
Other marinas are relatively small, but well equipped like Albatross Yacht Marina and the harbor Karacasogut. The Pupa Marina with hotel and the beach is small but offers good service in the northern bay and a beautiful beach environment.
In addition to the marinas and the pantalans of restaurants and bars there are several good anchorages in the bay for yacht charter Marmaris crews, such as south-east in the bay at the rock island Ciftlik Adasi about 8 miles from the city.
